How long should plaster dry before painting?
For paint-ready plastering, allow one to one and a half weeks before you paint. Thin plaster dries faster, usually within a few days to a week, because the layer is only 2 to 3 millimetres.
Drying time depends on the layer thickness, the temperature and ventilation. Leave a window slightly open and do not turn the heating up high, as drying too fast can cause hairline cracks. Plaster is dry when the colour is evenly light everywhere; as long as there are dark or damp patches, wait. If you paint too early, the paint can peel or stain. For the first coat use a paint suitable for new plaster, or thin the first coat as advised on the tin.
